Heritage Adapts!: a global campaign of local stewards to protect cultural heritage from climate change by 2030
The global campaign Heritage Adapts! has officially launched, aiming to support communities, institutions, and professionals in protecting cultural heritage from the impacts of climate change by 2030.
The initiative is designed as an international collaborative platform that brings together heritage stewards, those actively engaged in the care and management of cultural sites, practices, and knowledge, providing practical tools to address ongoing environmental challenges. It is supported by a collaborative network of organizations and founding partners contributing to its development and global scaling.
The role of CNR ISPC
CNR ISPC has contributed to the development of the campaign from the ground up, driven by the belief that stronger, more coordinated support is needed to address the climate crisis. The scale and urgency of this challenge require collective action and shared commitment, fostering collaboration to advance climate adaptation efforts.
CNR ISPC contributes to the campaign in a dual capacity:
- as a Founding Support Partner, supporting communication and dissemination activities to increase the visibility of the initiative and foster the engagement of new communities;
- as a Founding Service Provider, contributing from the outset with expertise, activities, and resources made available to the community through the platform.
Through this dual role, CNR ISPC supports both the outreach of the campaign and the development of concrete tools and services for the international community.

How it works
At the core of Heritage Adapts! is a participatory approach based on two main components:
- a collective pledge: participants commit to adapting their heritage to the impacts of climate change by 2030.
- an online community of action, offering:
- a guided and accessible roadmap to develop adaptation strategies, from understanding risks to implementing concrete actions;
- a peer network for sharing experiences, practices, and solutions;
- localized climate data, combined with training to integrate scientific information with community-based knowledge.

Cultural heritage and climate resilience
The campaign promotes a perspective that sees cultural heritage not only as vulnerable to climate change, but also as an active resource for building resilience, drawing on traditional knowledge and time-tested solutions.
In this sense, Heritage Adapts! represents a global collaborative space aimed at strengthening the adaptive capacity of communities through a shared and inclusive approach.
