Tarantine Ancient Archaeology and Architecture: Restoration and Sustainability

From the morphological study of an architectural heritage to a sustainable proposal with innovative methods for its restoration and enhancement

PNRR M4C2: PRIN 2022

Acronym: EByRome

Description

The project aims to enhance the monuments of ancient Taras, concealed by modern Taranto, belonging to a specific type of funerary architecture, the Semata Naiskos, which currently constitutes the most representative class of local architectural production. TARAS, developed by the Polytechnic of Bari, in collaboration with CNR ISPC of Lecce and the National Superintendence of Taranto, will develop starting from the study of compositional and physical characteristics of stone materials. It will proceed through multilevel historical-architectural knowledge paths and the development of sustainable restoration methodologies aimed at the conservation and enhancement of this particular category of Cultural Heritage.

The main project objectives are the development of an interactive App structured on different levels of information, the creation of physical replicas and tactile paths for the use of visually impaired and blind individuals (ABD), and the implementation of a sustainable restoration methodology using so-called 'smart materials', non-ferrous shape memory alloys (SMA). The ultimate goal is to create a fully reversible reassembly device compatible with Taranto's monuments.
