Research and diagnostics of methods against the deterioration caused by humidity in Cultural Heritage

Acronym: REMEDIA

Description

The project aims to bring a diagnostic device to an advanced technological maturity to address the conservation problem related to rising damp, a recurrent cause of degradation in porous materials, and in particular, to quantify the extent and distribution of water infiltrations on the walls before damage is visible. The innovative technique chosen to carry out the investigations on wall structures and underground archaeological environments is based on the use of Acoustic Imaging.

The advantages of the instrument are non-invasiveness and absence of contact with surfaces combined with high performance. The intention is to transform the laboratory prototype into a product that will be of interest to the operators of the sector also at a commercial level.
