Etruscologist, she graduated in Classical Literature (Etruscology) from Sapienza University of Rome, obtained a PhD in Archaeology (Etruscology) and a Specialisation Diploma in Classical Archaeology. She holds the National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor in Archaeology (10/A1) until 6/10/2033 and Associate Professor in Archaeology (10/A1) until 10/01/2029. She was Visiting Professor of Etruscology and Italic Antiquities (L-Ant 06) at the University of Foggia (2009-2013), the University of Naples Federico II (2013-2014) and the University of Genoa (2015-2021).
She is a member of the Faculty Board of the PhD programme in Classical and Modern Literature and Culture - School of Humanities at the University of Genoa (since 2019 to present).
Winner of many scientific awards, she was also Visiting professor at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris as winner of the “Directeurs d'Études Associés” (DEA) competition and won the CNR National Competition for Short Term Mobility at the Getty Research Centre in Los Angeles.
She was excavation supervisor at the Pyrgi and Veii (Portonaccio and Piano di Comunità) excavations of Sapienza University of Rome from 1989 to 2008, and has conducted archaeological excavations with universities (in Volterra, Rome-Palatine Hill, Pyrgi, Veii) and Superintendencies (Rome-Aqua Marcia aqueduct, Corchiano (VT) votive deposit of Fosso Ritello). She was Scientific Director of the excavations carried out in Norchia – Tomb of the Red Columns and in Veii – necropolis in the Agrifoglio area.
She is a Reviewer for the Evaluation of Projects on behalf of the Ministry of University and Research and for the evaluation of research products (ANVUR-MUR). She is an Expert Referee for Research Projects at Le Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique in Brussels. She is a Corresponding Member of the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Etruschi e Italici, Ordinary Member of the Istituto Nazionale di Archeologia e Storia dell’Arte, the History of Archaeology Research Network in Cambridge, the International Association for Research on Pottery of the Hellenistic Period in Würzburg and the Associazione Vincenzo Campanari” di Tuscania.
She is the Editor-in-Chief of the book series “Le necropoli rupestri dell'Etruria meridionale” (The rock necropolises of southern Etruria). She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the editorial series “Veio e le sue necropoli”, the Editorial Committee and Referee Board of the journal Mediterranea, and the Referee Board of the journals Atti della Società Ligure di Storia Patria – Genova and Archeologia e Calcolatori. She is an external Referee for the journals Studi Etruschi, Scienze dell'Antichità, Rivista di Archeologia, Orizzonti - Rassegna di archeologia, Bollettino d'Arte, Archeologia e Calcolatori, Atti della Società Ligure di Storia Patria – Genova, Mélanges de l'Ecole française de Rome-Antiquité, and Etruscan and Italic Studies.
She has presented 120 scientific papers at national and international conferences in Italy and abroad. She is the author of 13 monographs and editor of 3 monographs, author of 223 scientific publications (articles, book chapters, conference proceedings).
At the CNR ISPC she studies Southern Etruria, with a particular focus on rock necropolises, the history of rock funerary architecture, and cultural relations and contacts with similar complexes in the Mediterranean area. At the same time, she studies the finest examples of Etruscan artistic craftsmanship, conducting research on figurative culture, production processes, technology, and the circulation of artefacts. She is the Scientific Director for the Etruscology and Italic Antiquities sector of the agreement between ISPC and the Swedish Institute of Classical Studies in Rome for the project “Aspects of Etruscan civilisation: settlements, necropolises, material culture” and is Scientific Director for ISPC-Rome for the CHANGES project 'Cultural Heritage Active Innovation for Sustainable Society'_ CUP B53C22003890006- Spoke 8'.
