Professional profile
Landscape Analysis | Geological and Geomorphological Mapping | Geomorphometry | GIS specialist | Geophysics
Geologist and geomorphologist, he earned his degree in Geological Sciences in 2005 at the University of Basilicata, with a thesis in tectonic geomorphology. In 2008, he obtained a PhD in Earth Sciences at the same university, with a dissertation on morphotectonics and long-term landscape evolution in the southern Apennines.
Since 2006, he has participated in numerous regional, national, and European research projects and has enhanced his expertise through approximately 20 advanced courses, schools, and specialized training programs on topics such as Geology, Geomorphology, GIS, Applied Statistics for Geosciences, Geophysics, and Quaternary Geology. From 2009 to 2015, he worked as a research fellow at the University of Bari and the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), focusing on fluvial and coastal geomorphology and the study of ancient and recent landslides. In 2016, he obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in the disciplinary sector “Applied Geology, Physical Geography, and Geomorphology.”
Since January 2016, he has been a researcher at the CNR ISPC in Tito Scalo (Potenza branch), where his work primarily addresses applied geomorphology for cultural heritage.
His research focuses on the knowledge, protection, conservation, and promotion of landscape and archaeological heritage, using geomorphological analysis and landscape elements as a basis for reconstructing paleoenvironmental scenarios and assessing risks to cultural assets at multiple scales and time intervals.
His methodological approaches include geological and geomorphological field surveys, remote sensing and photo-interpretation, quantitative analyses using DEMs, GIS-based mapping, and the application of erosion and landscape evolution models.
He frequently collaborates with specialists from Italian and international institutions and has served as scientific coordinator for research projects, operational agreements, scholarships, and research grants on geomorphology, geoarchaeology, and cultural heritage protection. He has delivered numerous academic seminars and acted as co-supervisor for PhD and graduate theses on applied geomorphology.
Within CNR ISPC, he regularly serves as scientific coordinator for national and international projects and has participated in multidisciplinary research initiatives on cultural heritage protection and enhancement. He is a member of scientific committees and a regular referee for leading international journals, and he has recently edited five special issues in major international journals on geomorphology, geomatics, and landscape evolution studies.
He is an ordinary member of the Italian Association of Physical Geography and Geomorphology (AIGEO) and coordinator of a working group on morphotectonics.
He is the author of about 60 scientific papers in international journals with impact factor, and over 100 contributions including book chapters, abstracts, and conference proceedings.
