Ancient Near Eastern Historian | Assyriologist
She studied Ancient Near Eastern History and Assyriology at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, where she also obtained her PhD in Ancient History and Assyriology in 2013. Afterwards, she held research positions at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and Newcastle University.
Since 2022, she is researcher at the Institute of Heritage Science of the National Research Council of Italy. A historian and philologist, her research interests include various aspects of the cultural history of Mesopotamia in the first millennium BCE: in particular, she has studied dietary practices and banquets in the Neo-Assyrian period; prohibitions and rules related to food; Mesopotamian literature. She also deals with the archaeology of the ancient Near East and the history of Oriental studies, with particular attention to the birth of Near Eastern archaeology and Assyriology in Victorian England.
