Professional profile
Computer Scientist | Real-time 3D interaction and XR Specialist
Bruno Fanini (PhD in Computer Science) is a researcher at the CNR ISPC and he is part of the Digital Heritage Innovation Lab.
He focuses his research and development activities on real-time 3D visualization of complex and multi-dimensional data, immersive/XR interaction, and design of 3D user interfaces.
He investigates novel interaction metaphors with scientific data, alongside efficient visualization solutions for real-time applications for several years. He also applies these models to immersive XR presentation through HMDs (head-mounted displays) also involving natural interaction.
He designed and developed open-source Web3D/WebXR tools like the framework ATON, applied VR games, virtual museums (VMs), collaborative applications and internationally awarded interactive applications targeting Cultural Heritage.
He is responsible for different projects or work packages dealing with interactive 3D visualization, online Web3D/WebXR presentation, interaction metaphors, re-contextualization models and immersive XR.
Within HS research infrastructures, he focuses on solutions to accelerate deployment of services and to strengthen access targeting different scientific communities.
His activities also led him to focus his research on tools and services to support the analysis of large volumes of remote interactions - generated by web-applications, installations and equipment. This research, started through his PhD, also allowed him to design and develop new compact encoding models (like PRISMIN) targeting visual/immersive analytics, facilitating the understanding of complex interaction patterns.
