Chemist | Conservation Scientist

Since 2007, she has been working at the Institute's Florence office, where she is mainly involved in the conservation of cultural heritage made of stone and raw earth.

The main topics of her research are: the study of the state of conservation, for restoration purposes, of artefacts of historical interest; the study of issues relating to the deterioration of stone materials, including those contaminated by soluble salts or due to biodeterioration; the study of issues relating to the conservation of architectural heritage in raw earth, with particular regard to increasing resistance to atmospheric events and climate change; the characterization, testing and study of organic and inorganic treatments for the conservation of stone and raw earth materials. She is and has been the scientific director of several agreements with public and private bodies involved in cultural heritage. She has participated and continues to participate in various national and international projects.

She is a referee for several journals, including Journal of Applied Polymer Science, Journal of Cultural Heritage, Heritage Science, International Journal of Architectural Heritage, International Journal of Conservation Science, Construction & Building Materials.

Since 2011, she has been a member of the UNI-Normal Cultural Heritage Commission - Working Group GL3 ‘Evaluation of methods and products used in conservation interventions’, of which she has been Coordinator since 2024, and since 2019 of the UNI-Normal Cultural Heritage Commission - Working Group GL5 ‘Transport and packaging methods’, for the standardization of analytical methodologies applied to the study of degradation processes and the restoration of works of art.

Since 2017, he has been a member of the European standardisation group CEN/TC346/WG 3 (Technical Committee – Conservation of Cultural Heritage – Evaluation of methods and products for conservation works on porous inorganic materials constituting cultural heritage) and of the group CEN/TC346/WG 17 (Technical Committee – Conservation of Cultural Heritage – Management and monitoring of built heritage).
