Archaeologist

Ph.D. in Archaeology, with a specialization in Etruscology (Sapienza University of Rome), and an international Master’s Degree in Cultural Heritage: Knowledge, Conservation, Valorization, and Management (Roma Tre University). He has been a Research Associate at the Institute for Ancient Mediterranean Studies and a Visiting Fellow at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris.

He has directed excavations and research projects in Rome and central Italy. His studies focus on funerary archaeology and sanctuary contexts, with particular attention to the pre-Roman phases of Latium and Etruria.

For the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), he serves as Scientific Director of the CNR Mission at the Sanctuary of Manganello in Cerveteri, and as ISPC representative—within the framework of the agreement with the Archaeological Park of Cerveteri and Tarquinia—for the investigations at the Banditaccia necropolis. He is the Scientific Coordinator of the ISPC unit within the PNRR Grotte di Castro project “New Scenarios for an Ancient Town and Territory. A Community Imagines Its Future”. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the book series “Fonti etrusche. Storia, archeologia, paesaggio”. He serves on Editorial and Advisory Boards of several scientific journals of the CNR, including Mediterranea, Caere, and Collezione di Studi Fenici. In addition, he works on Research Ethics in the field of Cultural Heritage on behalf of the Interdepartmental Centre for Ethics and Integrity in Research (CID Ethics) of the CNR. He is Principal Investigator of the Cultural Heritage and Ethics Research Unit and Co-Editor of the CID Ethics series Etica e Patrimonio Culturale (CNR Edizioni). He is a member of the Scientific Secretariat of the CNR Commission for Ethics and Research Integrity.

He has organized study meetings and international conferences and is the author of numerous scholarly works. Among his editorial projects are: Società e pratiche funerarie a Veio. Dalle origini alla conquista romana (2019); Co-editor of La scoperta di una struttura templare sul Quirinale (2015); I dati archeologici. Accessibilità, proprietà e disseminazione (2018); Cerveteri, Roma e Tarquinia. Atti del Seminario di Studi in ricordo di Mauro Cristofani e Mario Torelli (2025). He is the author of Tra ostentazione e austerità. Le tombe di Veio tra VI e IV sec. a.C. (2020) and is currently preparing the monographic publication of the Etruscan necropolis of Via A. d’Avack.

He is a permanent member of the CNR ISPC Archaeological Mission in Sardinia at the Phoenician and Punic site of Pani Loriga (Santadi, SU), where he co-directs the excavations in the so-called Casematte sector.

He is a Corresponding Member of the National Institute of Etruscan and Italic Studies, a Panel Member of Experts of the Haut Conseil de l’évaluation de la recherche et de l’enseignement supérieur (France), and since the 41st cycle, a Faculty Board Member of the PhD Programmes in Archaeology, History and Human Sciences (University of Sassari) and in Heritage Science (Sapienza University of Rome), field ARCH-01/C – Civilizations of Pre-Roman Italy and Etruscology. He has served as doctoral tutor and examiner in Italian and foreign Ph.D. committees. He has obtained the National Scientific Qualification for the position of Associate Professor in the disciplinary field 10/A1 – Archaeology.
