Professional profile
Archaeologist | Virtual Archaeology | Science Communication | Public Engagement | Digital Heritage Research | Research Project Management
I am an archaeologist, PhD in Classical Archaeology, and I carry out research activities at the CNR ISPC, where I am a member of the Social Board staff and work within the Digital Heritage Innovation Lab. My research activity is situated within the field of Science and Technologies for Cultural Heritage and focuses on the role of digital technologies in the processes of knowledge production, interpretation, and communication of cultural heritage.
My background is rooted in field archaeology, developed through long-term practical experience. I have worked on archaeological excavations, carrying out excavation activities as well as topographic and instrumental surveys. I have also conducted field survey activities, followed by the analysis and processing of data in a GIS environment as an integral part of the research process. This experience has shaped my approach to data and methodology, grounded in an awareness of the complexity and interpretative choices that characterise research on cultural heritage.
My interest in digital technologies has developed precisely from this experience: not as an “additional” tool, but as a space in which the research process can be made visible, narrated, and discussed while preserving its complexity. Over time, I have worked on virtual reconstructions of buildings, contexts, and landscapes, focusing on modes of representation and on the relationship between data, interpretation, and visualisation.
A central part of my work concerns digitally mediated communication of cultural heritage, which I consider a field of research rather than a simple dissemination of results. I am interested in understanding how audiences engage with virtual reconstructions, digital narratives, and multimedia experiences, and in designing these tools to foster active involvement by making visible not only outcomes, but also the questions, steps, and uncertainties inherent in the research process.
At CNR ISPC, I participate in national and European research projects dedicated to virtual museums, immersive technologies, and the enhancement of cultural heritage. In several contexts and projects, I also act as Project Manager, coordinating research activities, technological development, and communication.
My work within the CNR ISPC Social Board represents a privileged observatory on these issues, allowing me to reflect on the role of communication as an integral part of the research process on cultural heritage.
