Platform for Digital Archives of Architectural Drawings: experiences, processes, and sustainability
PRIN 2022 scorrimento
Acronym: PAD-Arch
Description
The PAD-Arch research project aims to design and develop a digital infrastructure to support research and dissemination of architectural drawings preserved in Italian archives.
The proposed digital platform is conceived as an integrated and accessible tool for both specialists – including archivists, architects, and art historians – and a wider public. It enables enhanced online use of digital resources through functionalities such as:
- enriched and structured description of graphic content;
- interactive visualization of drawings;
- “spatialized” storytelling of historical and design contexts;
- immersive and multimedia re-contextualization of architectural works.
The project is structured around two main research objectives:
- The definition of a new digital model for the protection and enhancement of architectural drawings produced from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. This involves the digital acquisition, optimization, and standardization of architectural graphic data through a modular approach that can also be adapted to other types of digital cultural data.
- The design and development of an online platform for the consultation, semantic querying, and multimodal interaction with architectural digital content. The platform will support multiple configurations tailored to specific contents, audiences, and use contexts.
PAD-Arch aims to contribute to the digital transformation of cultural heritage by promoting new ways of accessing, studying, and engaging with architectural drawings as complex cultural assets.
ISPC goals:
- Concept e design of the PADARCH platform
- Coordination of integrated applications
- Concept, design, and development of the multimedia output
- Digital acquisition and 3D modeling
- Storytelling
- Video editing
- Web accessibility and copyediting
