Industrial heritage: a "fragile" resource to be enhanced
From knowledge to compatible and sustainable reuse

In the last decades of the last century, the gradual delocalization of production activities led to the progressive disposal of a substantial portion of the industrial heritage present in the peripheral areas of urban centres. The abandoned industrial heritage represents a testimony of material culture and has helped to determine the landscape that surrounds us. Safeguarding this heritage presupposes its knowledge and its valorisation.
The research program aims to focus attention on the analysis of some examples of industrial heritage present in Italy and Albania.
Starting from a punctual and detailed analysis of the typologies, distribution aspects, materials, construction techniques and structural conception characterizing the selected examples, the project intends to arrive at the elaboration of intervention proposals aimed at guaranteeing the conservation of the identity characteristics of this heritage, structural adaptation and possible compatible reuse. The results of this investigation activity will be shared with the owners and the public administration in order to promote greater awareness of the cultural and architectural value of the industrial heritage and, consequently, trigger virtuous recovery interventions.

Il CNR ISPC e l’Università Politecnica di Tirana FAU-UPT hanno organizzato una mostra fotografica dal titolo “Il patrimonio industriale, una risorsa fragile / Trashëgimia industriale një burim i brishtë” sotto il patrocinio dei rispettivi enti e dell’Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Tirana.
In mostra sono esposti esempi di siti industriali dei due paesi realizzati nella prima metà del ‘900, momento storico in cui si sono saldati i rapporti tra Italia ed Albania. Risale infatti al 1924 la firma a Roma di un “trattato di commercio e di navigazione” e al 1925 un decisivo sviluppo delle relazioni economiche tra i due stati, sancito da due convenzioni, una che concedeva alle “Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane” 47.213 ettari per la ricerca ed estrazione di petrolio, e l’altra in cui il “Gruppo Finanziario Italiano” si impegnava a costituire la “Banca Nazionale d’Albania” e la “Società per lo Sviluppo Economico dell’Albania”. Con queste convenzioni l’Italia manifestava il suo contributo di esperienza, iniziative e capitali per sostenere l’Albania sulla via del progresso economico, attraverso la valorizzazione delle sue risorse latenti.
La mostra è stata inaugurata presso la Sede centrale dell’Università Politecnica di Tirana, Facoltà di Architettura e Urbanistica il 4 maggio 2023 e rimarrà in esposizione fino al 30 maggio 2023.
