innovative technologies and training activities for the conservation and enhancement


Description

The archaeological site of Umm ar-Rasas is located about 30 km south-east of the city of Madaba (Jordan). The identification of Umm ar-Rasas with the ancient Kastron Mefaa is the result of scientific field investigations carried out by the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum (Father Piccirillo, Jerusalem 1994).

The site was inscribed on the World Heritage List (UNESCO) in 2004.

Activities:

  • geophysical prospecting for identification of structures in the subsoil with particular focus on hydraulic systems;
  • Processing a topographical plan of the site, which highlights the presence of architectural structures;
  • Data collection and analysis of the degradation and firmness of worship and housing structures;
  • Planning for and constructing the tourist visits routes, through utilizing of augmented reality applications.
