About the institute


The Institute of Heritage Science is an interdisciplinary institute whose mission is to pursue scientific excellence and encourage innovation in the knowledge, conservation and use of cultural heritage through collaborative research involving humanities, experimental sciences and technological applications.

With over 180 researchers, technologists and technicians from various disciplines and a strong propensity for interdisciplinarity, ISPC is the CNR’s hub for research, innovation, training and technological transfer of the cultural heritage strategic area, open to collaboration in national and international networks of expertise.

The main research areas

  1. Understanding of the tangible and intangible Cultural Heritage;
  2. Diagnostics and conservation of Cultural Heritage;
  3. Management, enhancement and sustainable use of Cultural heritage;
  4. Research infrastructures, technological districts, and competence center for Heritage Science.

ISPC contributes to higher education in collaboration with Italian and foreign universities through operational agreements and training projects, involves doctoral and post-doc students in research activities, welcomes university students for dissertations and internships.

ISPC e’ impegnato a favorire l’impiego e la valorizzazione della conoscenza e delle tecnologie sviluppate per contribuire alla crescita economica e culturale della società. Il trasferimento di conoscenza e tecnologie è in particolare verso il sistema produttivo culturale e creativo (amministrazioni regionali, provinciali e comunali, soprintendenze, biblioteche, musei, PMI) con il quale ISPC elabora strumenti e modelli di co-creazione attraverso accordi di collaborazione scientifica.
